We also have eight students (and eight alternates) who qualified for the All-State Honors Orchestras. You can find the complete results posted here: https://wtsboa.website
Congratulations to all who made it, and to all who became better musicians while preparing for this audition. Scoresheets have been emailed to me, and I will be sharing those with the students individually.
I am very fortunate to work with so many dedicated musicians. Your growth as musicians through this process – even while separated by the pandemic – was clear, evident, and inspiring. Thank you for all your time, effort, and determination. I appreciate you all.

White Station High School Honors Orchestra Audition Instructions
Hello to all of the WSHS Advanced Orchestra auditioning students! I’m looking forward to hearing you play. Here are the instructions for recording and submitting your audition. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Several current students in the Advanced Orchestra have offered their help in preparing for the audition. If you would like some coaching from a “Been there, done that” high school student, please email me soon, and I will connect you with one of them.
Audition Instructions
Perform your audition material in one live video recording (no editing or splicing). Of course, you may make several recordings and then choose the best one. But like any audition, all elements (scales, solo, and prepared excerpt) should be performed in one setting.
Upload your recording to Youtube as an unlisted video, and then email me the link to the video. After the auditions are complete, I will let you know when you can delete the video from Youtube.
Audition recordings may be submitted from now until April 27.
1. Scales: Perform your scales in at least two octaves, and with a minimum tempo of 100 beats per minute. You may use a metronome in the recording, but it is not required.
Violin: Scale 1: A Major Scale 2: E-flat Major
Viola: Scale 1: D Major Scale 2: B-flat Major
Cello: Scale 1: D Major Scale 2: B-flat Major
Bass: Scale 1: F Major Scale 2: A Major
2. Solo: Perform a one to two minute solo (or excerpt of a solo) of your choice. BEFORE PLAYING YOUR SOLO: Introduce your choice of music. For example:
“I will be playing the Bach Minuet #3 in G Major from Steve’s Collection of Cello Solos.”
“I will be performing the first page of Paganini Caprice #8, which I found in SmartMusic.”
3. Orchestral excerpt: Perform the excerpt from Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Five Variants of ‘Dives and Lazarus,’ Variant IV: L’istesso tempo. (You do not need to introduce the excerpt, as everyone is playing from the same piece)
The excerpt begins several measures before rehearsal letter T, and finishes at the end of Variant IV. The passage to be played is marked with blue brackets in the excerpts found here: http://whitestationorchestra.weebly.com/auditions.html
