“Clef Notes” #6 – January 22, 2020 Abbreviated updates for WSHS Orchestra students and parents Thank you to the many students who represented WSHS by performing at the Optional Open House on January 14. Performances 1. The All-West Orchestra Clinic is February 13-14 at the Cannon Center. Please complete and submit the Student Contract with the $40 registration fee (checks made to White Station High School). I will also be collecting Contracts (but not money) from the alternates. Permission slips and event information will be sent home in early February. 2. The Concert Festival field trip will be on either March 11 or 12. 3. The annual Spartan Strings Festival date is still TBD. Upcoming Assignments 1. There will be three Practice Plans for the third quarter. Plan 3.1 was due January 22. Plan 3.2 is due February 12. 2. Gmail Playing Test #7 was due January 16. It is from the Habits method book. Look for additional playing tests in the weeks to come. Classroom Activities 1. Dr. Kimberly Patterson, Cello Professor at the University of Memphis, will work with our students on January 31. 2. Our orchestra rehearsals will be focused on the Concert Festival repertoire. We will also be working on student compositions based on the French Folk Song. 3. Ms. Polesky continues to work with several of our chamber groups. They are starting to go out and play on their own for events in the Memphis area, too! Go Play! At Go Play! on our website, you can find links to several summer camps, including Prizm, Sewanee, Belmont Strings Crossing, and the master list from the American Strings Teacher Association. More summer activities will be posted in the coming weeks. |
