A. The All-West Orchestra Clinic is February 9-10 at the Renasant Convention Center. New this year: Please complete and submit the ON-LINE WTSBOA Student Contract found here: https://wtsboa.website/all-west-student-contract/ Please send the $55 registration fee to White Station High School. Cash is fine; checks can be made to White Station High School. Permission slips and event information details will be sent home later this month. I have created an All-West Remind Group https://www.remind.com/join/wshs-aw23 . All All-West Students and Alternates must join this group. It will be my main communication tool prior to - and during - the event. Parents are welcome to join too, of course. B. From Joseph Matthews (WSHS Orchestra alum) and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra’s Director of Impact & Inclusion. “I am writing to make an offer for your students to attend our upcoming Masterworks on January 21-22, 2023 at the Cannon Center at no cost. We can also accommodate some chaperones. The concert features a former Sphinx Competition winner performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, and it would be great to have a more robust and diverse audience.” The concert program is: STILL Serenade MENDELSSOHN Violin Concerto (featuring Annelle Gregory) SCHUMANN Symphony No. 3 “Rhenish” The Saturday, January 21 concert is at 7:30. The Sunday concert is at 2:30. Both are at the Cannon Center. Please let me know if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity. FYI, I will be playing on this concert, too. C. The Governor’s School for the Arts applications are now posted at http://gfsta.com . A link is on our Go Play/Festivals & Camps page. All 10th and 11th graders are eligible to apply. WSHS has students attend Governor’s School every year! E. Applications for the Governors Honor Festival clinic on February 25-27 at Austin-Peay State University can be found on here: https://www.apsu.edu/music/honorfestival.php Perform 1. Select students will be performing at the Optional Open House on the evening of Wednesday, January 18. 2. The Spartan Strings Festival (WSMS and WSHS) will be Thursday, March 2. 3. The Concert Festival field trip will be March 7, 8, or 9 (schedule is TBD). Classwork and Grades 1. There will be three Practice Plans for the third quarter. Due dates: Plan 3.1 – January 23; Plan 3.2 – February 13; Plan 3.3 – March 6. 2. The third quarter Project is due February 24. 3. Flip performance assessments are TBD. Classroom Activities 1. Mr. Wesley Heinecke, Teaching Resident Candidate from the University of Memphis, will be working with the students every day this semester. 2. The Memphis Symphony Orchestra’s featured concerto soloist – Annelle Gregory - will be visiting with our students on January 20.
