WSHS Orchestra “Clef Notes” #3 – October 27, 2022
Abbreviated updates for WSHS Orchestra students and parents Thank you to Chas Burbank, Sarah Forrester, Dominick Barconia, Mary Forrester, Max Ding, and Jason Tang for playing for a small open house event at WSHS on October 25th. I have received many thanks and messages of appreciation for their performance. Bravo! These students are representing WSHS at the Honors String Orchestra Festival at the University of Memphis on October 27-29: Haley Cole, Jimmy He, Mary Forrester, Gabrielle Clark, Navya Naik, Aneesh Kalaga, and Aniyya Dent. The Orchestra Activity Expense is $50.00 for this year. This covers the All-West Audition and Concert Festival (see the syllabus for details). You can send cash or check (made to White Station High School) now. The Band and Orchestra trip to Dallas, Texas is ON for February 20-22, 2023. Concerts, College Tours, Masterclasses, Six Flags, and more! The Governor’s School for the Arts applications are now posted at https://gsfta.com/ . A link is on our Go Play/Festivals & Camps page. All 10th and 11th graders are eligible to apply. WSHS has students attend Governor’s School every year! Classwork and Grades 1. The first Practice Plan for the second quarter (covering three weeks) is due November 4. Plan 2.2 is due on November 17. 2. Flip # 4 (Your All-West Melodic Minor Scale with All-West audition parameters) was due October 27. 3. Flip # 5 (Selected passages of the All-West audition music at practice tempo) is due November 4. 4. All-West Mock Auditions will take place during school on November 9 and 10. 5. We are using Habits of a Successful String Musician as our required method book. Students should have their own copy by now. Classroom Visitors Selim Geray, Orchestra director at the University of Mississippi will be working with the students on Friday, November 4. Joseph Matthews, Director of Artistic Operations for the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, will be visiting our class on Monday, November 14. Joseph is an alum of the WSHS orchestras! Mark Your Calendars The All-West TN Regional Honors Orchestra audition is Saturday, November 19, at Collierville High School.
