WSHS Orchestra “Clef Notes” #10 – March 12, 2022
Abbreviated updates for WSHS Orchestra students and parents It was a great week of performances for our orchestras. Thank you to all those who attended our Monday evening performance at WSHS. Performing our music – for others – is why we play. A special congratulations to both orchestras for their outstanding performances at the WTSBOA Concert Festival on Wednesday. Both orchestras received straight Superior rankings in both Concert Performance and in Sight-Reading. I appreciate the attention, dedication, and musical cooperation of every student in the orchestra. They really played very musically. I hope to make the recordings later this month. Thank you and congratulations to Ms. Jayda Hampton, our UofM Resident Candidate, who prepared and conducted selections for both orchestras for the concerts. It was my first time “standing in the wings” and listening to the WSHS orchestras on stage at Concert Festival. They sounded great, and I know that Ms. Hampton truly enjoyed working with our students and conducting them in concerts. She now moves on to her elementary resident placement at Sea Isle Elementary. I hear she will be with us for our Awards Concert on April 25, too! I told the students in class yesterday that my mother-in-law passed away on Tuesday, March 8. She lived in Florida, and had suffered with dementia for the last couple of years. Her funeral is March 22 in Florida, so I will not be at school for a few days after Spring Break. Mr. Sims will have some music for the students to work on while I am away. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Spring Break (and maybe you even played in the snow some!) And now, a few items of business…. Perform 1. The Senior Recognition/Awards Orchestra Concert at WSHS will be Monday, April 25. 2. The All-State Orchestras will be at the Opryland Convention Center on April 27-30. Students got their music on Friday. Seating auditions will be video-recorded and submitted prior to the event. I don’t have those details yet. Both orchestras are playing great music. I’ll have more information on the cost of the trip and departure timelines before the end of March. Assignments I’m working my way through assignments at the end of Quarter 3 first, and then will go back through the inbox of late submissions of Flipgrids, Practice Plans, etc. Please bear with me, as my school work/on-line time will very be limited in the next two weeks.
