We’re just a few days from our first live performance in over a year! Our Fall Concert is Monday night, October 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the WSHS auditorium. Invite friends and family! There’s plenty of room to socially distance by family group.
We welcomed Jayda Hampton to our classes since the last Clef Notes. Ms. Hampton is a student teacher from the University of Memphis, and will be working with the students on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the fall semester. Perform 1. Our Fall Orchestra Concert is Monday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. (6:30 call) in the WSHS auditorium. Please refer to the syllabus for concert attire expectations – which is part of their concert assessment grade – for all students. Students need to be in the auditorium at 6:30, ready to tune and rehearse our finale. 2. The U. of Memphis will host its annual high school honors orchestra clinic on Oct. 27-30. Nominations close this Friday, October 1. Students can self-nominate here: https://www.memphis.edu/stringsfestival/nominations.php or let me know and I can nominate you as part of the WSHS Orchestra group. 4. The All-West Regional Honors Orchestra audition music is posted at WTSBOA.website. The auditions are November 20. Assigned audition times are usually posted 8-10 days before the audition. 5. The Winter Holiday Concert will be Monday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the WSHS auditorium. Classroom Activities 1. All five String Faculty members from the University of Memphis worked with the 6th period students on Tuesday, September 20. They are Marcin Arendt and Timothy Shui, violin, Lenny Schranze, viola, Kimberly Patterson, cello, and Jonathan Colbert, double bass. 2. “All-West Wednesdays” return after our concert. But with Ms. Hampton (she’s a cellist) here at WSHS on Tuesdays & Thursdays, expect some variations on what “Wednesday” means. Upcoming Assignments 1. Flipgrid Assessment #4 –– was due September 23. 2. The Projects/Presentations/Portfolios is due September 29. A separate handout with project options and requirements is on the assignments page of the website and in TEAMS/files and in TEAMS/assignments. 3. Practice Plan No. 3 is due October 1. New on the Website 1. The Orpheum STAR Council program is now taking applications. (Go Play!/Festivals) 2. The Sewanee Summer Music Festival is hosting several fall masterclasses and workshops.
